UNLUCKY WITH MY BREAD MAKER (OSTER EXPRESSBAKE 2LB)

Oster 2lb. ExpressBake Bread Maker CKSTBRTW20

No Luck with my new Bread Maker. Is an Oster 2lb Bread Maker (Expressbake). My husband gave it to me as a Christmas Gift and I have tried many ways and can’t stand it! :( What’s the problem… well, breads are not well baked. With and without time delays. The flour is not well incorporated, even following exact recipes from the booklet that comes with it and other proven recipes! Can’t really manage to knead a dough without babysitting it!!!! I feel I have to be there helping the machine incorporate and knead the ingredients, because if if I don’t, is like trashing the ingredients! I really don’t like it and I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT!

I used to have another one that died on me. I was a different brand and it was a vertical baking one. This one is horizontal baking and that is one feature I liked about it! Loved that the Expressbake idea (baking a loaf of bread from start to finish in 1 hour) but it does not bake it well. Is uncooked in the middle, in this cycle or not. Loved the idea of a cycle to make jam, but I never tried it. It does not incorporate well, nuts and raisings (that’s what I’ve tried so far). :(

These are some features per Walmart website and my comments in ():

  • Makes 1-2-lb. family size loaves (not baking well 1.5lb and 2lb loaves)
  • 9 bread settings for a variety of breads, dough and jams (nice feature)
  • Expressbake setting for bread in less than 1 hour (not baking well)
  • 13-hour delay timer (nice feature to set up everything at night and wake up to ready baked bread)
  • Audible signal notification (yeah! very annoying and loud!!!)
  • Large glass window (nice feature)
  • Lid removes for easy cleaning (nice feature)
  • Non-stick aluminum bread pan (nice feature)
  • Large easy to read LCD screen (nice feature)
  • Cool-touch exterior housing (nice feature)

All I can say is that I never had problems with the other one that I had. I couldn’t help but ask my hubby if it was still on warranty. Thanks to him, he bought the extended one and I can still get a replacement or my money back. I think I’ll get the money and buy another brand! This one is a definite NO NO!

Right now I was making the dough for a 2lb sandwich bread (which worked perfectly well in my other machine and with this one it’s been impossible to get it right (tried 4 times!) To make this dough I had to help the machine incorporate the ingredients.. AGAIN! Now I am baking it in the oven! That’s not what I have a bread machine for!

Oh well! I guess I’ll get a new one! Hope this post helps anyone out there trying to figure out what’s wrong with it and make them feel that they are not alone! :)

As a celiac, I thought the problem was the flours for my bread!!! I, too, find the machine does not mix the dry ingredients well and the bread comes out very dense with a large hole where the beater is. I have tried all the suggestions in the manual, including adding extra liquid but it doesn't seem to help.
Has anyone out here managed to get a light, airy textured loaf from this machine?
