OH WELL! Robert is 6 and the “Attitude” has arrived. Later or early? I HAVE NO IDEA! BUT IT SURE IS ANOYING! Phrases like “I don’t care!” “Whatever!” “Fine!” “Oh my goodness!” AND the rolling eyes are some days the favorites around!
What happens if you don’t tackle bad behaviors and attitudes RIGHT WHEN IT STARTS? It makes your life a hell! One thing I learned since Robert was born is that for better or for worst he was going to go through stages that come and go… This one will end too and another one will come. The good thing is that early in his life I learned to tackle bad ones right when they started and transformed them into a learning lesson. Stages, good and bad, are a great opportunity to teach our kids about life. In my parenting experience it has made me be a better parent. I THINK!
For example: “I DON’T CARE!”… I asked him “you really don’t care or do you mean it doesn’t matter?” Then I went ahead and explain the difference and what “I DON’T CARE” really means. He sure learned his lesson and now he choose his words better. There are still other phrases around but for sure we are working on them and the attitude accompanying them. Meanwhile we will make sure every time he plays one, we take a moment to deal with it. Otherwise it will become part of his personality and this is not positive when the attitude is a negative one!
MAKE EACH STAGE BE WORTH A LIFE LESSON!
